Hello friends, welcome back in my cooking blog. Friends today i will share the easiest way of making Idli batter at home. Idli batter is used for making idlis and it is most similar to dosa batter. Many housewives face problem in making perfect idli batter because they don't know the exact quantity of ingredients used in idli batter. Idli batter is mostly made from soaking rice and urad dal(black split gram) and fermenting it's paste. Friends today i will share the exact quantity of rice and urad dal(black split gram) from which you can make sponge idlis and trust me your family members would surely become big fan of yours after eating idlis. Friends whenever you take rice for soaking then always take urad dal(black split gram) in half the quantity of rice taken, if you will make idli batter in this quantity then your idli will become perfect. So, without wasting time let's start the procedure of making idli batter.

Ingredients for making idli batter:-
  • Rice (used for idli batter) - 2 cup
  • Urad dal(black split gram) - 1 cup
  • Water - 1 cup
  • Salt as required
  • Mitha soda(soda powder) - 1 pinch
Directions for making idli batter:-

1. Firstly, mix black split gram(urad dal) and rice and wash for 3 to 4 times with water.

2. Now, soak rice and black split gram(urad dal) in 3 cups of water for 6 hours.

3. After 6 hours in a mixer jar take urad dal(black split gram) and rice and add little, blend it and make a smooth paste and in this way make paste from all the soaked dal(black split gram) and rice.

4. Now, in a bowl transfer all the batter, add salt, baking soda and mix it well. Keep in mind that batter should not be too thick, it should have pouring consistency and if needed add some water.


5. Now, cover the lid of a bowl and keep it in a warm place for 6 hours for fermentation and before making idlis don't forget to mix  the batter well.
