How to make vermicelli(semiya) upma:-

About recipe:-

Semiya(vermicelli) upma is very famous breakfast in south India but people of north region in India also love to eat vermicelli upma. People of all age group from children to old like to eat this semiya upma because it looks similar to noodles. You can give this semiya upma in the tiffin box of your children and trust me friends your children will return tiffin box empty. Semiya upma is very simple, quick, light and easy recipe and it takes very less amount of time to cook. Semiya upma is nutritious as it is  fully loaded with lots of vegetables. It is best option the people who are vegetarians. It is very delicious in taste because it is made with maggi masala. Semiya(vermicelli) upma is very useful for working ladies who have no time to cook recipes of long procedure, in this situation they can make this recipe very fastly and easily. There are two methods by which we can make this recipe and i will share both the recipe. So, let's start making the process of making the recipe.

Ingredients for recipe:-


  • Semiya(vermicelli) - 100 gm
  • Curry leaves - 6 to 8 leaves
  • Maggi masala - 1 pouch
  • Mustard seeds - 1 tbsp
  • Turmeric powder - 1/2 tbsp
  • Green capsicum - 1 (finely sliced)
  • Peas - 100 gm(peeled)
  • Onion - 1 (finely chopped)
  • Green chilli - 2 (finely chopped)
  • Water - 1 cup
  • Coriander leaves - 1 bunch(finely chopped)
  • Oil - 2 tbsp
  • Salt - as required
Direction for recipe:-

Method 1:-

1. Firstly, heat kadai, add semiya and roast till it gets golden brown in colour. No need to add oil in it, We will roast it without oil.


2. Now, heat oil in the same kadai, add mustard seeds and when it began to pop up then add chopped onion, green chilli, curry leaves and saute till it gets golden brown colour.

3. Then add sliced capsicum, peas and stir fry for 1 minute on medium flame.

4. After that, add maggi masala, turmeric powder, salt to taste and saute for 1/2 minute or 30 seconds and add water and bring to boil.

5. When water starts boiling then add roasted semiya(vermicelli) and simmer on low flame for 2 to 3 minutes until the semiya(vermicelli) gets soft.

6. Now, turn off the flame and garnish with the chopped coriander leaves and serve hot.


Method 2 :-

1. Firstly, heat kadai, add vermicelli and saute till it gets golden brown colour and no need to add oil in it. We will roast vermicelli without oil.

2. After that, boil water and add roasted vermicelli in it and cook till it get soft and no need to over cook.

3. Now, drain all the water from it and let it cool for sometime.

4. Further, heat oil in a kadai and add mustard seeds and when it began to crackle, then add chopped onion, chopped green chilli, curry leaves and saute till it gets translucent.

5. Now, add chopped capsicum, peeled peas, salt, turmeric powder, maggi masala and stir fry for 1 minute on medium flame.

6. Now, add boiled vermicelli and fry for 1 minute on medium flame.

7. Turn off the flame and garnish with the chopped coriander leaves and serve hot.
