How to make sambar recipe:-

As we know Sambar is south Indian recipe. A south Indian meal would not be completed without Sambar, a deliciouasly thick lentil stew overflowing with healthy vegetables like pumpkin, aubergines and drumsticks. Sambar can be eaten with rice as a main course, or as an accompaniment to breakfast dishes like idli and dosa. Sambar is very easy and it takes very less time to cook. so, lets learn how to cook sambar recipe.



Ingredients for making sambar recipe:-

  • Toor dal (arhar dal) - 100 gm
  • Onion - 1 (diced)
  • Pumpkin - 150 gm
  • Brinjal - 150 gm
  • Turmeric powder - 1/2 tbsp
  • Oil - 2 tbsp
  • Mustard seeds - 1 tbsp
  • Curry leaves - 10 to 12 pieces
  • Tamrind paste - 1 tbsp
  • Sugar - 1/2 tbsp
  • Sambar masala powder - 2 tbsp
  • Salt as per taste
  • Whole red chilli - 3 to 4
  • Water - 4 cups

Method for making sambar recipe:-

1. Firstly, soak toor dal in 1 cup of water for 15 minutes.

2. Now, strain and pressure cook the dal for 20 minutes with 3 cups of water.

3. When dal will get cooked then mash the dal if needed.

4. Now, separately cook brinjal and pumpkin in 1 cup of water for
till it gets soft.

5. Now, heat 2 tbsp oil in a wok or saucepan.

6. Further, add Mustard seeds and when it began to crackle then add curry leaves and whole red chilli, add diced onion and stir fry till the onion gets translucent.

7. now, add cooked vegetables, tamarind paste, salt as per taste, samber masala powder, turmeric powder and add some water and bring to boil.

8. After that, add cooked and mashed lentils, sugar and simmer on medium flame for 5 minutes.

9. Now, sambar is ready, serve piping hot sambar with steamed rice or as an accompaniment for idlis or dosas and enjoy with your family.
