How to make Aloo matar sabji:-

Aloo matar is a punjabi dish which is made from aloo(potatoes) and matar(peas). It is also used as filling in some variations of dosa. This dish can be easily prepared at home with the normal ingredients and it is to learn. We can serve aloo matar sabji with the parathas, roti, naan, rice etc.




Ingredients for making aloo matar sabji:-

  •  Potatoes - 250gm 
  • Peas - 100gm (peeled)
  • Tomato puree - 1/2 cup
  • Oil - 5 tbsp
  • Onion - 1(finely chopped)
  • Cumin seed - 1 tbsp
  • Ginger garlic paste - 2 tbsp
  • Green chilli - 1(finely chopped)
  • Water - 2 cups
  • Garam masala powder - 1 tbsp
  • Salt as per taste
  • Red chilli powder - 1/2 tbsp
  • Fresh chopped coriander leaves for garnishing

Directions for making recipe:-


  • First pressure cook potatoes, peel it and cut into small pieces.
  • Now, heat 2 tbsp oil in pan, once the oil heated properly, add pieces of potatoes in oil and saute it for 2 minutes. Take it out on kitchen paper towel and keep aside.
  • Put 3tbsp oil in pan, add some cumin seeds and when it began to crackle, then add chopped onion, green chilli and saute till it gets brown.
  • When onion gets brown then add ginger garlic paste, red chilli powder, tomato puree, garam masala powder, salt as per taste and put peas in it and saute it till the oil oozes out from it and peas get soft on the medium flame for 5 minutes.
  • Now add fried potatoes in the gravy and saute it for 2 minutes.
  • Add 2 cups of water and cook it for 8 to 10 minutes on medium flame and when it gets cooked turn off the flame. Garnish with chopped coriander leaves.
  • Now the aloo matar dish is ready, serve hot with the roti, paratha, rice, puri as of your choice.
